Fat Transfer for Breast Augmentation in New York City

Fat transfer is not a new surgical technique, but it is growing in popularity as plastic surgeons find innovative ways to accentuate the body using a patient’s own fat. One of the most exciting applications of this technique is breast enhancement. As a safe and effective alternative to implant-based breast augmentation, fat transfer is an appealing option for women who want to add shape and volume to their breasts but do not want foreign materials in their body.

Fat transfer breast augmentation delivers the benefits of two surgeries in one. The procedure involves collecting fat from another area of the body with liposuction — often a common “problem area” like the abdomen, flanks or thighs — and injecting it into the breasts. After fat transfer breast augmentation, patients enjoy fuller, naturally enhanced breasts and a shapelier body with very minimal scarring.

Breast augmentation patients come to New York City from throughout the Tri-State Area to have their surgeries performed at ME Plastic Surgery. If you’d like to meet with Dr. Marc Everett, request a consultation online or call us at 212-774-7715 to schedule an appointment.

Reasons to Consider Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Fat transfer breast augmentation may help you sculpt your ideal figure if your goals include:

  • Adding moderate fullness to your breasts
  • Improving the shape of your breasts
  • Balancing breast unevenness
  • Removing unwanted fat from an area of your body
  • Taking an all-natural, organic approach to breast enhancement
  • Avoiding breast implants and their associated risks and maintenance
  • Reducing recovery time
  • Minimizing postoperative scarring
  • Achieving results that look and feel natural
  • Enhancing the aesthetic results of a breast augmentation surgery with implants

Is Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Right for You?

You may be a candidate for fat transfer breast augmentation if:

  • Your breasts are finished developing
  • You have enough excess fat to use for the transfer
  • You desire a modest increase in the size of your breasts
  • You are in a good general state of health
  • You do not smoke
  • Your goals and expectations are realistic

It’s critical to match the right procedure with the right patient. The fat transfer technique is best for women who want subtle and elegant enhancement, rather than an extreme increase in breast size. Furthermore, implants often provide a lifted look that fat transfer does not, so women who wish to address sagging breasts may achieve better results with implants or a breast lift.

To be considered for a fat transfer breast augmentation, patients must have sufficient fat to use for the fat transfer. Slim patients may not be good candidates and may be advised to consider implants instead.

Dr. Everett will determine which procedure is the best match for your goals after an in-person evaluation.

The Procedure

The Procedure

Fat transfer breast augmentation is a three-step outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Everett works with each patient to create a personalized surgical plan that delivers a proportionate, beautiful result.

The first step in any fat transfer procedure is the use of liposuction to extract fat for the injections. Dr. Everett can perform liposuction anywhere a patient has excess fat deposits. Commonly used places include the abdomen, flanks, back, arms and thighs. The goal is to choose areas that will leave an aesthetically pleasing result while ensuring enough fat is harvested to achieve the desired changes in the breasts.

In the second stage of the procedure, the extracted material is processed in a centrifuge to separate the healthy fat cells for injection. This purification process helps ensure that the maximum amount of fat possible survives in its new location.

In the final step of the fat transfer breast augmentation, Dr. Everett carefully injects the purified fat cells into the breasts. Because the body may naturally absorb some of the fat in the weeks following the procedure, Dr. Everett may inject a bit more than needed to create the desired shape and size. The procedure usually takes two to four hours to complete.

Recovery & Results

Recovery after a fat transfer breast augmentation is typically shorter and more comfortable than recovery following a traditional breast augmentation. Each patient’s recovery journey is unique, however, and your experience will depend on the volume of fat removed, the areas where Dr. Everett performed liposuction and the number of areas used.

Soreness is expected in the breasts and fat harvesting sites for the first week. Bruising and swelling will decrease significantly over the first month. You’ll be instructed to wear a compression garment to control swelling and retain your newly sculpted shape while you heal. Most fat transfer breast augmentation patients can return to work after the first week. You may resume light activity as soon as you feel comfortable, but it is important to avoid vigorous exercise and lifting heavy items for four to six weeks.

There may be minor scarring at the liposuction site(s). These scars are short and easily hidden with clothing, and should fade significantly over time. There will be no scars on or around the breasts because fat is injected with a very fine needle.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Results

The final results of a fat transfer breast augmentation develop over time. The initial postoperative swelling may cause your breasts to look larger and feel firmer than you desire. The swelling will gradually settle over the course of several months, leaving you with a more natural look and feel. Some fat cells will not survive in their newly grafted position. For this reason, Dr. Everett may slightly over-graft to make sure you achieve your goals.

The cells that do not take will be naturally processed out of your body. The fat that survives the transfer will remain permanently. It should change proportionately with any future weight fluctuations, so maintaining a stable weight is an important part of sustaining your results. The fat transfer process can be repeated to increase the amount of permanent cells.

New York City Breast Reduction In NYC

Breast reduction surgery begins with a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Everett, who has garnered a reputation as one of the best breast reduction surgeons in NYC. As this is the procedure he performs most often, it’s also the consultation he sees the most patients for.

During this initial meeting, Dr. Everett will explain the options available to you and educate you about the implications of future pregnancy, ability to breastfeed, changes in nipple sensation, and more so that you may make informed decisions about your procedure. Multiple techniques may be considered, but the method you and Dr. Everett ultimately choose will depend on multiple factors, including: the size of your breasts, the type of excess tissue present, and your individual goals. The objectives of the breast reduction surgery are threefold.

RESERVE YOUR VIP APPOINTMENT

The Three Goals of Breast Reduction according to Dr. Everett

1

The first objective is to remove anywhere between a third and two-thirds of your breast tissue, reducing the actual weight that neck, upper back and shoulders have to carry.

2

The second objective is the redistribution of the remaining breast tissue higher onto your chest wall. This changes the weight bearing dynamic and now your breasts will be seated high and pointed forward, facing your movements, instead of hanging low and away from you and working against your movements, i.e. “the pendulum effect.”

3

The third objective is to create two beautiful breast mounds that are nearly identical in size, shape and position. The third objective is never less important than the first two. In fact, Dr. Everett considers every single breast reduction to be a “Cosmetic Breast Reduction.” It doesn’t matter if your operation is covered by your insurance or paid for out of pocket.

Rapid Recovery

New York breast reduction is easier than you would ever imagine it to be. NYC breast surgery is an outpatient surgery performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Everett also never uses drains in this operation, as he doesn’t feel there is an indication to do so.

Additionally, Dr. Everett utilizes the most cutting edge pain reduction techniques for breast reduction surgery. In fact, most of our patients do not take a single pain pill, and as long as your job doesn’t demand significant physical labor, you can return to work in 4-5 days.

The tensions on your neck and shoulders can disappear immediately and some patients improve their posture in weeks. You will notice results right away and will continue seeing the evolution of your breast surgery results over the next several months. Some subtle changes can continue for up to a year until your breasts are fully settled.

NYC Breast Surgery:
Reductions and Insurance

NYC

The cost of plastic surgery is something that many of our clients wonder about before they visit. Most health insurance plans do not cover elective procedures like cosmetic surgery. This means that no matter what the cost of your surgery is, you will likely need to pay out of pocket. There are some exceptions, however, and New York breast reduction surgery may be one.

In many cases, a breast reduction procedure alleviates unpleasant or painful symptoms that women experience as a result of having disproportionately large breasts. Consider the ways your breast size impacts your daily life and create a list that details how your breasts are problematic for your health and well-being. Women whose breasts are sizable enough to cause problems such as neck and shoulder pain, skin irritation or difficulty exercising may be eligible for breast reduction surgery that is partially or fully covered by their health insurance plan. It’s unlikely that your procedure will be covered if you have no symptoms and are seeking a breast reduction solely for cosmetic purposes.

BREAST REDUCTION INSURANCE VERIFICATION
If you aren’t sure whether your breasts are impacting your health, a visit with a visit to Dr. Everett or your primary care doctor for an exam can help bring any medical concerns to light.

The Procedure

the procedure

Breast reduction surgery in NYC begins with a consultation. During this initial meeting, Dr. Everett will explain the options available to you so that you may make informed decisions about your procedure. Multiple techniques can be utilized when performing breast reduction surgery. The method used for you will depend on the size of your breasts, the type of excess tissue present and your desired outcome.

To begin the procedure, Dr. Everett will make incisions in the designated areas. The nipple will then be adjusted to place it in a more upright and centered location. If necessary, the areola will be reduced at this point. Dr. Everett will then remove excess skin and tissue and reshape the remaining tissue, ensuring symmetry between both breasts. The incisions will be sutured closed to complete the procedure.

SEE PHOTO RESULTS
tai

Traditional or Anchor Incision

The traditional or anchor incision technique requires three incisions: one around the areola within the natural texture of the skin, one extending vertically from the areola to the natural crease beneath the breast and one horizontally underneath the fold of the breast. This method maximizes the amount of tissue removal possible and can treat moderate to severe sagging.

VL

Vertical or Lollipop

The vertical or lollipop incision technique utilizes two of the incisions from the traditional technique but avoids the horizontal incision beneath the breast. This is a newer method that allows for mild to moderate tissue removal, meaning it is not the best option for all patients.

Liposuction

Liposuction

The vertical or lollipop incision technique utilizes two of the incisions from the traditional technique but avoids the horizontal incision beneath the breast. This is a newer method that allows for mild to moderate tissue removal, meaning it is not the best option for all patients.

Recovery & Results

Expect to rest for about 48 hours after your procedure. Common side effects include swelling, bruising, soreness, numbness and discomfort that can last several hours. Some patients can return to work in one week, while others may need to wait two weeks before resuming their daily schedules. Plan to wear a sports bra for at least four weeks after your procedure. Underwire and push-up bras can harm your results and irritate your incisions while they heal. Dr. Everett will provide you with thorough postoperative instructions so you can ensure your body receives the care it needs to heal and deliver beautiful results.

Breast Reduction Results

Results will be noticeable right away and will continue to develop over the coming weeks. Swelling will make your breasts larger at first and they may temporarily appear asymmetrical if they heal at different rates. Final results are typically visible three to six months into recovery, although subtle changes in size can continue for up to one year. The scars will reach full maturity in about 12 to 18 months. Once your breasts have settled into their new size and shape, you can enjoy your size reduction — as well as improved self-confidence, relief from discomfort and a broader range of clothing options — well into the future.

Breast Reduction FAQ’s

Why is it called rapid recovery breast reduction?

Dr. Everett utilizes the most cutting-edge pain reduction techniques for breast reduction surgery.  In fact, most of our patients do not take a single pain pill, and as long as your job doesn’t demand significant physical labor, you can return to work in 4-5 days. Dr. Everett also never uses drains in this operation, as he doesn’t feel there is an indication to do so.

Am I a good candidate for breast reduction surgery?

Good candidates for breast reduction surgery are women who are in good health, do not smoke, are suffering from negative physical and mental effects due to overly large breasts, and whose breasts are finished developing. We can better determine if you are a good candidate after an in-person evaluation.

Which incision technique is best for me?

We will discuss this with you in detail after performing an in-person evaluation. Not every option is available to each patient. Sometimes the best method for patients may not correlate with their desires for minimal scarring, but we always emphasize placing a priority on results and improved quality of life, rather than the presence of minor scarring. We will help you make an informed incision during this part of the process so that you can be satisfied with your results.

How long before I can go swimming or take a bath?

Once your surgical bandages have been removed, you are free to shower and get your incisions wet. However, you should refrain from submerging your breasts until your incisions have fully healed. Avoid swimming or taking a bath for at least two days following surgery.

Will I be able to breastfeed after breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery can make breastfeeding more difficult later in life. Depending on the method used for the surgery, breastfeeding may not be an option for all patients following breast reduction. We will go over this with you more in-depth before your surgery and take every precaution necessary to both provide optimal results and retain your ability to breastfeed if possible.

How long will results last?

You can enjoy your size reduction following surgery well into the future. We only perform breast reduction after the patient’s breasts have stopped developing, so you will not need to worry about returning to your pre-surgery size. Pregnancy and weight gain can affect your results, however, since both can lead to an increase in breast size. We can discuss this in more detail during an initial consultation.

What kind of bra will I need to wear following surgery?

You should plan on wearing a sports bra for at least four weeks after your procedure. Underwire and push-up bras can harm your results and also irritate incisions while they heal. You should refrain from purchasing new and expensive bras until most of your swelling has diminished, around two or three months into your recovery.
